Description
LOT 58 Oleksandr Lyapin. War. Mixed media.
47 x 26 cm, painted in 2023.
The artist created a unique painting masterpiece literally on the Artifacts of War. But first, a bit of history – it all started when our heroic soldiers collected from the very heat of battle the lids of the transport and launch containers of the Ukrainian S-300 air defense systems, which are knocked out during the launch of a missile, and these lids became an unusual basis for real paintings. By the way, all the artifacts were directly used by our artillery soldiers during combat operations to protect the Ukrainian sky.
All funds raised through the sale of works during the exhibition and auction will go to support the military, who are regularly supported by the Cossack Drive charity foundation.
Oleksandr Liapin is one of the leading and most sought-after Ukrainian photographers: his track record includes numerous exhibitions and wins in international competitions, thousands of articles about photography, a photo album, and teaching photography using his own methodology. Lyapin was the editor-in-chief of the Foto.ua website and now runs the photo service of the Ukrinform news agency. Lyapin says that he works in the style of urban naïveté, an artist-sociologist who expresses his ironic, sometimes bitter, observations and thoughts about the surrounding reality on canvas or a piece of cardboard. One critic said: “If Lyapin had lived in Barcelona in the 1920s, he would have become a Buñuel or Salvador Dali.”
“All these images are born from physical sensations or from experiences, dreams, and transform themselves into such visual stories. You just squeeze a few flowers from different tubes onto the canvas and follow them where they lead you. This is the principle of singular art, the art of outsiders.”
